Keeping humans in the loop and writing about what happens when you try.
Hey, I’m Ben.
I started behind a camera with a notebook and the AP Stylebook. Nearly two decades later, I'm building AI tools for the Air Force — a plot twist that still feels like it belongs in someone else's story.
Those years of telling stories taught me one thing: the best communication starts with listening, not talking. I'm still learning that part.
Somewhere along the way, I wandered into emerging technology, which is a fancy way of saying I help people figure out AI without making them feel dumb about it. Right now I manage emerging tech at the Air Force Public Affairs Agency and ended up as an AFWERX Fellow as well.
The biggest thing on my desk is QUILL, an AI system I’m building for 2,200 public affairs professionals. It works because it keeps humans in the loop. That's the hill I'll die on.
I'm also writing a middle-grade Christian sci-fi novel, leading online life groups at church, and reading way too many books at once.
This site is where all of that collides. I'd love to hear your story, too.
